I am finally able to blog and show some of what has been going on in my second grade classroom! The first couple months of school have been crazy busy with the new ELAS common core standards, MCESA evaluations, paperwork, organizing, blah, blah, blah! I am sure everyone is in the same boat, not enough hours in the day:)
The past two weeks we have been working on informational text features and main idea integrated with our science unit "Air & Weather". I have so many great things to share, but right now, not enough time. I know many of you are busy with implementing common core also and I can't wait to share all that I have done and the amazing resources I have used. My kiddos are learning so much and I am so excited to share!! I used Jennifer Jones' Informational Text Features Book to teach text
features. Cick on the image below.
| Writing down a list of the text features they found in the text. |
| Finding exciting text features in their book about weather. Explaining what they are and why they are important. |
| Writing the text features they found in their book. |
| Writing about tables and how they can help the reader better understand the text they are reading. |
| We checked off the features we found as a group. |
